Maybe you have been avoiding Genetically Modified Foods because some of them make their own Roundup, teaching your intestinal bacteria to make it too, and others are genetically modified to tolerate large applications of Roundup. Perhaps you figured either way these foods won’t be good for your body. But we just learned quite a bit more about why GMOs should be avoided.
Following is an excellent video interview of the nation’s top expert in food crop pathogens. He has identified a new microbe which reproduces easily in the presence of bacteria. It is not a bacterium, and it is not a virus. This microbe is associated with Roundup Ready soy and corn, and also is associated with crops such as wheat which are grown with Roundup and then used as feed after processing to make things like beer. After beer is made, the microbe continues to grow unabated, and the wheatsledge is fed to livestock. It developed because herbicides and pesticides left a void in the ecosystem, so it is not expected to respond to common antibiotic or antimicrobial treatments.
It is expected that this microbe will easily infect Roundup Ready alfalfa which has recently been approved by the Obama administration. Dr. Huber is particularly concerned with the introduction of Roundup Ready Alfalfa because it is a primary feed crop for our livestock and in five years after introduction there will be no non-roundup ready alfalfa left due to distribution of the pollen by bees. (This will not be good for the bees.)
The new pathogen causes manganese deficiency which is critical for detoxing in animals and humans. Manganese is also required for calcium deposition.
Veterinarians are reporting that pig and dairy farmers are going out of business because they cannot keep their animals healthy. They have traced their problems to round-up ready feed or feed treated with roundup. The hogs and cattle have a spontaneous abortion rate of 45% and many hogs and cattle cannot get pregnant at all.

Here is another way you can help. Today, Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods have policies of carrying GMO-free foods. All Trader Joe’s brand products are sourced from certified GMO-free sources–which is great!! But the foods they carry which are not Trader Joe’s-branded are often sourced from GMO-heavy sources, notably their non-TJ brand soy and corn products. You can help by asking Trader Joe’s to label these GMO-containing products with a notice that says “contains genetically modified ingredients.” This will fully inform consumers and allow them to make their own decisions regarding consumption of these products.
Similarly, you can also help by telling Whole Foods to label their GMO-containing products with the same notice.
