Pursuit of Wellness Through Probiotics

It is dawning on me, after years of trying different medical alternatives, therapeutic diets, homeopathy, energy work, etc., that the health of the body and/or the health of the mind truly reflects the health of the gut.  If we want to improve our general health, if we want relief from those symptoms we have come to associate with “getting older,” and “DNA” one of the very best things we can do is get our digestive systems healthy.

Scientists have recently told us that having a system that is slightly basic is healthiest for us.  However, eating meat, beans, and grains makes you more acidic.  Foods that help your system stay slightly basic are vegetables and fruits.  That’s about it.  Do we have to become low-starch vegetarians in order to have a basic body chemistry?  We can affect our ph also by drinking a beverage that has the effect of making your system more basic, such as lemon water or water with a teaspoon of vinegar in it.  We can also balance out our body chemistry and help heal our guts by home brewing water kefir.  I began making water kefir about a week ago.  It is delicious, by the way.  I’m sure it is the basis for the original Coca-Cola recipe.  I’m excited about the potential of this non-dairy drink to heal digestive systems and will continue to post on its effect on our family.
