This article couldn’t be more interesting, nor more provocative. It documents the immunological impact of gluten sensitivity beyond the intestinal tract, and addresses adverse health effects such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune endocrine disorders including thyroiditis, connective tissue disorders, and myocarditis. While this is a techinical paper, it is fascinating reading and well worth climbing through to understand the nuggets of knowledge that may be key to your healing.
The article states that the incidence of Celiac Disease (CD) is 10-30 times higher amongst those with the above diagnoses than in the general population. I expect the research has implications beyond those who test positive for CD in a laboratory, as a great number of people have tested negative for CD in the lab but have found they are sensitive to wheat gluten anyway.
